Smart Cities Council has been invited to moderate a panel discussion as part of the Digital Built World Summit to be held in Sydney from 18 - 19 of February 2025. The topic: Harnessing AI and Digital Twins for Transformative Urban Asset Management.

SCC’s experts will discuss real-world applications, governance challenges, and the future potential of these innovations in managing urban infrastructure.

  • Exploring AI-driven solutions and digital twin applications in urban environments.
  • Addressing governance, security, and integration challenges in smart city initiatives.
  • Understanding the role of AI and digital twins in transforming transport, and subsurface assets

The panel will focus on the critical elements that determine whether these technologies are truly effective.

Guided by industry experts, the audience will be invited to look at key insights that highlight why AI and digital twins are not just emerging trends—they’re strategic imperatives.

During the event, SCC Digital Maturity Task Force Chair, Keri Niven, will facilitate a discussion and introduce the Digital Twin Maturity Matrix which has been developed to build on a previously released Digital Twin Blueprint aimed at igniting a digital twin marketplace and enabling smarter decision making for the natural and built environments.

Recently, Utility Magazine featured Keri's work both as Digital Practice Lead at Aurecon, and as Chair of this SCC task force. In the interview, Keri noted that, while there’s no shortage of enthusiasm, foundational issues like data standards, governance, whole-of-asset and whole-of-project lifecycle information management remain under-discussed

“Maturity isn’t about buying a twin off the shelf; it’s about taking ownership –understanding your data, structuring it thoughtfully, and aligning it with your strategy so that it underpins organisational imperatives,” she said.
