In this Smart Cities Council Member Spotlight, we explore groundbreaking green energy innovations with Eco Renewable Energy. Known for transforming renewable energy into interactive and engaging experiences, Eco Renewable Energy has worked with major brands across Australia and the Asia Pacific. Their unique approach includes products like kinetic energy floors, We Watt bikes, and, most notably, smart solar-powered benches.

These innovations not only promote sustainability but also inspire meaningful conversations around renewable energy, health, and wellness, paving the way for smarter, greener cities. We had the opportunity to speak with Jade, Co-Founder and CEO of Eco Renewable Energy, to learn more about their journey and the impact of their solutions.

The Origins of Eco Renewable Energy

Jade shared that the company was born from a passion for sustainability and a desire to give people hands-on experiences with renewable energy. Instead of large-scale solar farms, their focus has been on interactive, cutting-edge technology that showcases renewable energy in a tangible way.

“I moved to Australia about ten years ago and was inspired by the country’s push toward sustainability and smart cities,” Jade explains. “I wanted to create something that engaged people directly with renewable energy. My background in events led to the idea of incorporating renewable energy into activations, which eventually evolved into permanent installations with councils and businesses.”

Creating a Positive Environmental and Social Impact

Eco Renewable Energy’s mission is to make a lasting impact by educating and inspiring communities through smart renewable products. Their innovative solutions include:

  • Smart Solar Benches: Completely off-grid, these benches store solar energy in built-in batteries, offering amenities like Wi-Fi, phone charging, and environmental sensors.
  • Kinetic and Solar Flooring: Used at events and public spaces, these floors harness energy from movement to power interactive displays and generate usable electricity.
  • WeWatt Energy Bikes: Designed for both indoor and outdoor spaces, these bikes generate energy while promoting an active lifestyle.

Smart Benches: A Game-Changer for Public Spaces

One of the most exciting innovations from Eco Renewable Energy is the smart bench. Unlike traditional public seating, smart benches provide additional functionality while contributing to digital equity and sustainability.

“The benches collect anonymous data on usage, such as how many people connect to Wi-Fi or charge their phones. Environmental sensors also track CO2 and noise levels, helping councils make informed decisions about public spaces,” says Jade.

With installations across Australia, councils have already seen the benefits of integrating smart benches into urban environments. “For example, the City of Casey has installed multiple smart benches, and we are working with other councils to expand this initiative,” Jade shares.

What’s Next for Eco Renewable Energy?

As smart city development accelerates, Eco Renewable Energy continues to innovate. Their latest products include Smart Boards and Smart Beams, which can retrofit existing infrastructure with renewable energy capabilities.

“We’re always speaking with councils to understand their needs. Our new Smart Boards and Beams are designed to retrofit existing spaces, making it easier to integrate smart technology into cities without the need for entirely new installations,” says Jade.

Get Involved: A Call to Action

To further support communities, Eco Renewable Energy is launching a trial program for councils to experience smart benches firsthand.

“We encourage communities to reach out to their local councils and request smart benches. Councils can also apply to win a free trial through the Smart Cities Council,” says Jade.

Final Thoughts

Eco Renewable Energy’s innovative solutions demonstrate that sustainability and technology can go hand in hand to create more connected, efficient, and livable cities. Their commitment to hands-on renewable energy experiences is reshaping how communities interact with sustainability in everyday life.
